Associated Builders and Contractors recently promoted the benefits of their Safety Training Evaluation Process program in light of a recent report released from the Department of Labor regarding construction fatalities in 2012 – read the full ABC article here. According to the DOL, there were 775 deaths in 2012, up 5 percent from 738 deaths in 2011. Many of the deaths were due to falls, electrocution, and being hit by an object.
This is the first time fatal construction injuries have increased over the past five years, following a steady decline. While these numbers are down 37 percent since 2006, the slight 2012 rise is a setback for setting successful safety regulations across the nation.
Nickle takes great pride in keeping the welfare of our employees a core value throughout our daily operations. As of today we have worked 1,311 days without a lost-time accident. We’re a participant in ABC Delaware STEP and we have won numerous safety awards through the program. The Delaware Contractor’s Association also offers safety training classes and we have received multiple awards from that organization as well.
Training employees in CPR & First Aid, OSHA, Arc Flash, Lock Out/Tag Out, Fall Protection, and more are essential in keeping construction fatality rates to a minimum. ABC offers these classes on a regular basis and we hope you will take advantage of them if you don’t already. They’ve been a great help to us and we hope they’ll be a great help to you.
